The final workshop of the activity "Development of 2024-2030 Strategy for Restoration of Lake Sevan Ecosystem" took place

On June 14, the final workshop of the activity "Development of 2024-2030 Strategy for Restoration of Lake Sevan Ecosystem" took place. 
Ara Mkrtchyan, Deputy Minister of the Environment of the RA, Frank Hess, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, and Konstantin Sokulsky, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Armenia made opening remarks at the workshop. The event was also attended by representatives of state institutions dealing with the regulation of the sector, representatives of scientific, international and non-governmental organizations.
Ara Mkrtchyan, Deputy Minister of the Environment of the RA, emphasized that Lake Sevan has suffered significantly in recent decades due to unsustainable, consumer use of resources. For this reason, the planned measures of the strategy for the restoration of the Lake Sevan ecosystem are aimed at sustainable water level management, improvement of water quality and implementation of intersectoral initiatives.
The deputy minister thanked for the work already done, assuring that the document will contribute to the solution of the environmental problems of Lake Sevan ecosystem and the restoration of the ecosystem.
The participants of the workshop presented the main objective of the Lake Sevan Strategy, which will ensure the feasibility of the project by providing a clear road map for the allocation of resources, as well as carry out a comprehensive risk analysis, anticipating potential challenges.

The strategy also includes a detailed action plan, including financial and economic calculations for all proposed measures. The financial analysis ensures project feasibility and provides a clear roadmap for resource allocation. Furthermore, a comprehensive risk analysis was conducted to anticipate potential challenges in advance.
The activity “Development of 2024-2030 Strategy for Restoration of Lake Sevan Ecosystem” is part of the “Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan” (EU4Sevan) UNDP project and has been implemented by “CIVITTA AM” CJSC (Armenia). 
The Project “Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan” (EU4Sevan) is co- funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is part of the BMZ-funded programme “Management of natural resources and safeguarding of ecosystem services for sustainable rural development in the South Caucasus (ECOserve)․” The project is implemented by GIZ and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
